If you want to talk about where the pulse of America lies politically this year, go to the Garden State of New Jersey. Tomorrow, is the Republican primary and tomorrow I am starting to feel confident that former Americans for Prosperity State Director Steve Lonegan is going to pull off the upset tomorrow against former US Attorney Chris Christie.
Lonegan in the last month of the campaign is showing his strengths from the grass roots and this is the reason why his internal polling numbers are looking better and better by the day. With Chris Christie being recently exposed by the Jersey Guys radio program which is one of the most listened in New Jersey over AP reports on Friday he has been involved in a pay for play scandal with a former eminent domain attorney in New Jersey who is banking from their already dangerous pension system that even allows part time employees to bank in their corrupt system.
Tomorrow, Lonegan is going to win because of two factors, one the turnout will be low in a primary and according to some New Jersey political experts is going to be a big plus for the Lonegan camp. The receent scandals affecting Christie are going to affect his campaign on the ground. Second, Lonegan is going to win because they know how to execute on the ground game when it comes to crunch time in New Jersey. It has been evident in 2007 when he was state director of Americans for Prosperity and he successfully led the fight to defeat Governor Corzine’s 8 percent sales tax and eminent domain ballot questions using the same grass roots strategies. The big reason why the Lonegan camp is closing in is using their agressive grass roots strategy that volunteers are making their rounds in New Jersey signing up new voters every day for Lonegan. If the Lonegan camp executes on the Get Out the Vote, they will be winning tomorrow.
As a proud out-of-state supporter knowing Lonegan through my days at Americans for Prosperity, I am confident knowing that New Jersey can do better and the way to do better is not nominate Chris Christie to the top of their GOP ticket, at a time when America needs the right leadership, Steve Lonegan is the person that can lead the conservative comeback into 2010.
