2010 US Senate Candidate and former Congressman Pat Toomey (R-Pennsylvania) had a rousing speech last night at RightOnline 2009 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh. During his speech last night, Pat Toomey warned activists at the conference that the Obama Administration is on a crash course to repeat the same economic policies of the 1930’s that prolonged the Great Depression and urged activists to not let up as Toomey is leading both Democrat candidates Arlen Specter and Joe Sestak in a recent Rasmussen Reports poll.
Toomey who was the President of the Club for Growth is appalled by the levels of current wasteful spending in Washington. Earlier before the dinner, I had a chance to meet up with Mr. Toomey. When I asked Pat Toomey how he would reign in spending especially PAYGO, Toomey responded: “we need to change how we run PAYGO in which if a new entitlement program is created, then the Government should reduce spending in another section of the budget to offset the costs. Under the current system, its pay it up or you have to raise taxes.”
Toomey is also encouraged by the prospects of his Senate bid especially in the wake of increasing disapproval of Senator Arlen Specter and his support for the card check bill. Despite the State of Pennsylvania has a close to 1 million voter registration advantage for Democrats, Toomey is confident he can carry Pennsylvania with a large block of Conservative Democrats and Independents who could support Toomey as many people in Pennsylvania are opposed to card check and cap and trade.
