Bob Ziegelbauer, a fearless blue dog Democrat in the Wisconsin Assembly lost his Chairmanship on the Assembly Ways and Means Committee on Friday over taking a principled stand against funding hospitals who perform late term abortions in Wisconsin.
Ziegelbauer is brave to stand up to Speaker Mike Sheridan, Mike Tate and his cronies to say no to funding hospitals that perform late term abortions including the Madison Surgery Center on the UW Campus. The reason why Speaker Sheridan forced him off the committee is because he is a voice against higher taxes and a voice for the unborn.
This move shows why the Democratic Party in Wisconsin is showing evident division. Right now, there is the first stage civil war that is dividing the Milwaukee Caucus Democrats versus Out-State Wisconsin Democrats over the battle on MPS control and this move with Bob Ziegelbauer is going to morph into a second stage civil war between blue dog and moderate democrats versus progressives.
It is now known that Mike Tate does not want blue dogs in his party as its evidenced by Barbara Lawton’s first endorsements in her governor’s bid and throwing a brave blue dog under the bus for standing up for life. These actions along with the words I hear around Madison that Barbara Lawton is the chosen one for Governor shows that the Democrats in 2010 may have a doomsday coming in which they could suffer double digit losses in the Assembly, big losses in the State Senate, and losing virtually every statewide race.
