Blogging LIVE from MITCHELL PARK DOMES, MILWAUKEE-In front of a packed a crowd at the Mitchell Park Domes the gold medal ceremony turned a little political. It was the Milwaukee County Board not Scott Walker who presented the hardware to the Milwaukee County Parks Department after winning the gold medal from The National Parks and Recreation Congress during it’s annual conference in Salt Lake City last week.
There were a couple parts during the ceremony that despite Walker’s name was not mentioned that there were some crticisims towards Walker’s budget towards County Parks. One County Board Supervisor praised the achievement claiming: “the ever dwindling funding for County Parks.”. On the other hand Milwaukee County Parks Officials viewed this as a bargining chip towards the budget. The County Board is set to take up items on the Parks Budget next week.
With the County Executive gaining momentum in the budget battle with scoring two key wins involving the parks and forcing the county labor unions to make deep concessions, this could be viewed as revenge coming from the County Board.
As the Milwaukee County Budget battle moves in full bloom, keep looking at the North Shore Exponent for objective budget coverage. We will have live coverage of the pivotal public hearing on November 2nd at 7PM Central time.
Scott Walker was campaigning in Fond du Lac, if you would bother paying attention.
